We Are the 99 Percent

“We live in an time where elected politicians ignore the needs of their constituents, where the judiciary and police institutions will not uphold the rights of citizens, where the media is afraid to report the truth, where lawlessness abounds and ordinary people are left unprotected and defenseless against the rapacity of a few. The answer to our dilemma is for people of courage to actively help each other. Only if we unite can we succeed. The abuse and corruption of corporations, Banks and Governments. ENDS HERE!! We do not Forgive. We do not Forget. We are the 99%.”

Dear friends,
I am lucky enough to have a good job and minimal college debt thanks to scholarships, work study and grants. I just want to say that I understand. I grew up poor and moved upwards of 20 times because of several evictions. At times, I was homeless and other times I lived with friends. During my junior year of high school, I lived in a hotel and on the one year anniversary of the beginning of my stay there, I was accepted into my state’s flagship university. I consider myself lucky since many of my friends struggle. I would like to tell you all that your courage, resolve, and engagement will lift you from the doldums and activism akin to this has helped people like me. I thank you for your passion.

I am  25 years old, I have degrees in Environmental Studies & History. I could not have gone to school without taking loans. I now have $75,000 from a state university. I pay what I  can, but it is not enough. They call me everyday but I have nothing new to say. It has been almost four years since I graduated. I have had 17 different jobs, and three unpaid internships in that time. I jump from job to job looking for better pay, better hours, and experience in hope it will lead to a full-time career with benefits……I do not see it coming soon. The psychological weight is crushing and defeating at times, but I know it could always be worse.  I know there are people everywhere that are worse off than me, but we are all in this together. So as I start another work week at two jobs, without a day off, without health insurance, without a living wage….you are all in my thoughts.

Φοβερό Post. Πού θα πάει αυτή η ιστορία ρε συ; Θα προλάβουμε να δούμε τίποτα διαφορετικό;
ΥΓ. Να υποθέσω ότι είναι η πρώτη ανάρτηση από Θεσσαλονίκη; :)

Αν μπεις στην ιστοσελίδα του We are the 99 percent, θα διαβάσεις εκατοντάδες ιστορίες ανθρώπων που παλεύουν καθημερινά για την επιβίωση.
